EU Delegation Explores Opportunities in Ghana's Cashew and Cocoa Industries with a visit to USIBRAS Ghana Limited, the largest cashew processing facility in Ghana
On the 09th of April 2024, The European Union Delegation made up of Andrea Alfieri (Deputy Head of Unit, Directorate General for International Partnerships (INTA), Unit F3 – Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and Fisheries), Céline PRUD’HOMME MADSEN (Programme Manager – Agriculture Infrastructure and Sustainable Development Section, EU Delegation Ghana), Benjamin Garnier (Nitidae, Cashew expert of the mission), Edwin Gaader ( Cocoa expert of the mission); and Beate Weiskopf, Project Leader GIZ/MOVE-ComCashew and Ernestina Amponsah, Technical Advisor, GIZ/MOVE, visited USIBRAS Ghana Limited, the largest cashew processing facility in Ghana.
This visit to the biggest Cashew processor in Ghana, operating in the country for the past 10 years, was organized by GIZ. It supported the EU delegation to gain insights into the challenges the cashew processors are facing.
During the visit strategies to overcome these challenges at company and at regulatory level have been discussed, emphasizing the need for implementing the necessary regulatory measures by the Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA) to significantly improve conditions for the cashew processing industry in Ghana.
The EU mission was visiting Ghana in the week of the 7th of April to evaluate the perspectives and opportunities in the cashew and cocoa value chain in Ghana to be integrated in a possible new investment.
