Strengthening Agricultural Education: Highlights from the First e-MOVE Campus Tour in Ghana

Supporting a Growing Cashew Sector with Online Learning

The cashew sector continues to expand and evolve globally. In Ghana, the sector is gaining momentum as a priority area for rural employment, agribusiness development, and export diversification. As the country seeks to move beyond raw nut exports to local processing and commercial growth, the need for capacity building for actors in the cashew value chain has become paramount.

Following the launch of the e-MOVE online learning initiative in 2024, MOVE is actively scaling up outreach efforts across educational institutions to promote uptake and ensure young people are equipped to seize emerging opportunities in the cashew sector. The e-MOVE Campus Tour is a key part of this strategy, bringing digital learning directly to agricultural colleges in Ghana and beyond, empowering students with both technical expertise and digital skills.

Launching the e-MOVE Campus Tour

In June 2025, the maiden edition of the e-MOVE Campus Tour kicked off in Ghana, engaging over 840 students across four of Ghana’s agricultural colleges. The objective was to introduce students in agricultural colleges to the opportunities offered by digital learning and support their registration and course engagement. The tour visited four key institutions across Ghana:

Ejura Agricultural College and Mechanization Center
Kwadaso Agricultural College
Wenchi Agricultural College
Damongo Agricultural College

Commencing at Ejura Agricultural College and Mechanization Center, the e-MOVE team engaged with staff and students to onboard them on how to access our available courses. Participants received hands-on support for registration on atingi and course enrollment. The enthusiasm continued as the tour moved to Kwadaso Agricultural College, which saw the highest engagement with over 490 students actively participating. Follow-up stops at Wenchi and Damongo Agricultural Colleges further solidified the initiative's reach, providing students with the tools they need to thrive in modern agriculture.

Student Engagement, Impact and Reflections from the Field

Key discussions during the tour highlighted the relevance of the courses to existing curricula, with tutors and students appreciating the practical and interactive nature of the modules. Feedback sessions captured the students' eagerness to implement what they learned, emphasizing the importance of continuous youth engagement in building agribusiness skills. The personalized support offered throughout the tour not only facilitated access to the course but also significantly enhanced digital literacy among participants.

The impact of the e-MOVE Campus Tour is evident not only in the immediate of the number of student registrations, but also in the broader implications for the agricultural sector. With more than 2,000 certificates awarded, students will be equipped with new knowledge about cashew production, business development insights, and enhanced digital skills after completion of courses.

As we continue this inspiring journey, we echo the words of Celina, student ambassador of Damongo:

“Thank you for your good work and support. We truly appreciate and recognize your effort and support. Your presence with us shows your commitment to empowering youth and building a better future.”

Albert Appiah Amoakoh, Principal of Kwadaso College of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, also remarked on the initiative's transformative impact:

"This initiative is very strategic and demonstrates the power of collaboration and motivation. Digital learning and adaptability will make it possible for students and faculty members to work in different terrain when they successfully complete the program. The smooth coordination, insightful content, and student engagement were remarkable. We’re excited about the potential to embed this into our curriculum revision process this year. It has been a game changer and will positively impact the future career of my students."

Looking Ahead: Expanding Digital Learning in Agriculture

As we look to the future, the e-MOVE Campus Tour has successfully laid the groundwork for ongoing digital learning opportunities in agriculture, with plans to extend the reach to other agricultural educational institutions. By strengthening youth capacity and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, this initiative is not just preparing students to be future leaders; it is actively shaping the next generation of agricultural pioneers.
